Ok, so I am new to this whole blog world.....I already had to call Ali for help because I couldn't remember my log-in information to even post! Yikes! She is so patient with me.... :) Thanks for the help, babe!
We had a wonderful National Night Out last night at Faith Alliance. I so enjoy this every year. There is something really special about connecting with other church members and people from the community - professional and neighborhood folks. I really enjoy seeing everyone come out, eat, and enjoy each others' company....very cool, and I believe, God-pleasing.
I can't believe that school will be starting again soon! I really love working with the kids at Newport Elementary. They are precious and keep me on my toes. The staff isn't all bad, either! :) What a great group. I am truly blessed to be working there.
This leads me to share about how God is working in my life. He has been teaching me so much about living day by day this summer. I, like so many, tend to live in the future and dwell too much on the past, while today passes me by so quickly. We only have this moment assured to us, so I am trying to slow down and take it all in. For example, I so enjoyed working on this site with Ali. It's amazing to see the young lady she is becoming and watch her use her skills so effortlessly. Before I know it, she'll be off to college or getting married or something, and I'll be hobbling around with my cane, wondering why I still can't remember my log in information! :) .....seriously, I just drank in that time with her and really treasure it. I also treasured the time I had watching DJ and Maddie yesterday, being able to hold Maddie when she felt ill and comfort her. I am most at peace when I am obeying God and doing what He leads me to do - that brings the most fulfillment to me. There is a reason He commands us not to worry about tomorrow!
Now for a little funny: my students and I are reading Charlotte's Web in summer school. We are at the part where Wilbur (the pig) is taken to the county fair and Charlotte is about to have her babies. I noted for the kids that the book was published in 1952, so some things have changed (like how much money we spend at fairs, etc.). I then remembered and shared with them about the time when I lost at least $20 to the scary carnie lady who worked a rigged game stand in the old MN State Fair Midway (before it got cleaned up). I still remember that toothless woman, chain smoking, and tempting me (in her grovely voice) to, "Come on! Just try it one more time!" $20 and no prizes later, I made my way home, trying to figure out how I was going to explain this one to my folks. Ugh - my students got a kick out of that one.
Blessings and enjoy the beautiful day! God is good!
P.S. OK, here is the kicker: I just checked my hotmail account, and gmail had sent me info on my log-in. I could have gotten it myself if I would have read my email. I keep saying, "I'm getting old"! Hee, hee!
Haha, I loved reading this post! You're right with the whole don't worry about tomorrow (Matthew 6:34). Oh, Tami..don't be talking about me going to college, and getting married. That's not for another 5-7 years! ;]
