Perspective....

So, did you ever have one of those days when you feel used up and people keep on asking things of you?  I was feeling that way yesterday - ready to blow up, forgetting simple things, bordering on self pity.  Then I listened to Dick and Lillian share about their recent trip to Vietnam......

You see, they were missionaries there years ago.  In fact, they were taken captive by the communists when they were there - all for sharing the Gospel.  Their work there enabled many people to be able to read Scripture and sing hymns in their own language.  Countless lives have been changed due to God's work through them.  This summer when they returned, it was to celebrate 100 years of the Gospel being in Vietnam.  Millions now know Christ as a result.  One of their stories stirred me particularly:

When they were taken captive by the communists, they were part of a small group of captives, including one tribal man they didn't know.  He was taken from his home, partially clothed, in the night.  Dick and Lillian made it a habit of having a packed suitcase on hand, in case they ever needed to leave quickly.  They knew they were in danger for what they were doing.  Well, Lillian had that little suticase with her and managed to pull out a shirt for this young man to wear, as he was very cold.  Fast forward over 30 years.....

When Dick and Lillian went to Vietnam this summer, they met this man again.  He had become a pastor and had a hand in helping to plan the very celebration Dick and Lillian returned there for!

So I ask myself, when I feel used up, is it worth it?  YOU BET.  There is a reason why Jesus said that even giving a cup of water in His name is powerful.  When you give of yourself, in even the most seemingly small way, God will do amazing things.

So my pity party is over.  Instead, I will take advantage of the priceless friendship I have with my Lord and give up my frustrations to Him so that He can use me.  Blessings!
